Ellen (my wife) and I travelled to Brownsville last evening for the monthly munch they started. This month it was held at the Corner Cafe and they had a no host pizza gathering and David Eckert from Corvallis one of the local rain harvesting experts was presenting how easy and inexpensive it is to do. Great program and about 25 to 30 folks were make more aware of a small step we all need to think about as it relates to water and our water collection and use. It just makes sense. Sole source water production even though it is currently inexpensive is NOT the way to go. I installed 2 1,500 gallon collection tanks this fall and have collected almost 2,000 gallons of water for plant irrigation this summer. I need some improvements suggested by the speaker last night but he validated my collection concept and effort. His wife, Annette Mills, is the co-chair of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition and I encouraged her to create a group here on the Willamete Innovators Network to get the word out on rain harvesting. It is a niche but hey all of us working together to breakdown the silo's of "lack of communication" might be able to make a little difference for saving our planet and way of life. Water is a huge issue. As one wag said, "whiskey is for drinking and water is fighting over!" We need to be talking about water now and planning for conservation and appropriate usage so we DON'T have to fight over it. Invest Local, Produce Local and Buy Local
