William Ray Ford I added the group Slow Money Alliance

Looks like great principals, at least ones that I can go with. This came highly recommended as a movement that seems to fit the Corvallis and mid-valley region as it relates to shop local, buy local, grow local, eat local etc. Green is very green here but it takes a new way of looking at local investing. We do have several opportunities including the Willamette Angel Conference (WAC). Last year we held the 1st WAC at the CH2M Hill alumni center on the campus of OSU. This year it will be held in… Continue

William Ray Ford The Brownsville monthly MUNCH!

Ellen (my wife) and I travelled to Brownsville last evening for the monthly munch they started. This month it was held at the Corner Cafe and they had a no host pizza gathering and David Eckert from Corvallis one of the local rain harvesting experts was presenting how easy and inexpensive it is to do. Great program and about 25 to 30 folks were make more aware of a small step we all need to think about as it relates to water and our water collection and use. It just makes sense. Sole source… Continue

William Ray Ford The Ning Experience on WIN

Thanks to Loyan for helping me get signed up for the Willamette Bioscience Group here at the WIN network. Glad to see Mary Foley is controlling the "invites" and good to see the membership growing by leaps and bounds. With the old Ning becwvbic.ning.com site and the OBA's official site we should have the internet covered with great discussion, opportunities and information flowing. Now, if we can just turn the words into dollars and create some traded-sector, family wage jobs and turn this down… Continue

Alex Brandt Carbon Commodity Trading

Chicago Climate Futures Exchange (CCFE) is a landmark derivatives exchange that currently offers standardized and cleared futures and options contracts on emission allowances and other environmental products. It is my firm belief that if Obama's Cap and Trade legislation pass congress, that this market will have explosive growth. According to “Carbon Emissions Trading Markets Worldwide,” by SBI Reports, the global market is expected to be $700 Billion by 2013. Current statistics place… Continue

Loyan Roylance Chris Nordyke for Linus Pauling Innovator of the Year Award

My nomination for the WIN 09 Linus Pauling Innovator of the Year Award is Chris Nordyke. Chris is not the typical innovator. He doesn't claim any research breakthroughs nor (to my knowledge) does he hold any patents. In fact he is an insurance agent for State Farm, a seemingly plain position. I believe that Chris is an exemplary innovator because of his initiative, leadership, and willingness try things others would considered too big of a risk.

Here are some… Continue

Chris Nordyke Ryan Kirkpatrick- Innovator of the Year Nominee

If you've never met or heard of Ryan Kirkpatrick, it's because as a 20 something, he's quickly becoming a pro of the niche play and he's always hard at work on something.

While at OSU, Ryan connected with Dan Whitaker and worked on the precocious nano startup, Nanobits. In addition to being a protege of Dan, Ryan's also started several companies of his own.

One of his notable startups is Galvanic Design(… Continue

William Ray Ford Bill Lunch at City Club today

Bill did his normal GREAT job summarizing the results of the election this year by building from the Presidential election on down to the results for Oregon. I counted about 65 of the local movers and shakers in attendance. It was nice to have the city manager Jon Nelson at our table. I was shocked and surprised to learn that about only 10% of any population were that interested and involved in politics. What a shame! Bill highlighted the winners and loser in the session. Higher education… Continue

Loyan Roylance Why Do I Give a $h!t About WIN?

so what?

First of all, although I am a part of the planning committee for WIN 09 this post does not reflect the views of the committee. In fact I purposefully used the expletive in the title to emphasize that this is not the "official company line".

My name is Loyan Roylance. I am a husband, father, professional and resident in Corvallis. I love Corvallis. And this is why I care about WIN 09.

1. The economy sucks. I need help.

Now more than ever I… Continue
