Here's a bit of background:

I've been doing social media tips tweets for #hcsm (healthcare social media) and decided to utilize those tips as best I can in my own community. (@john_norris)

I started the Twitter feed @corvallishealth to help health and wellness locally.

I really want to involve more folks, both the help and to gain the advantages of crowd sourcing, so I am starting a Facebook group Corvallis Health. I see this group as a low entry, public health type project. It is currently (12/11) invite only and hidden.

If WIN folk want an invite, feel free to drop me a note. I'd really like to get your feedback and you can get a jump on participating.

At this point, I will need to friend you in Facebook and then invite you to the group.

In the near future, I will be making the group public.

Is this a good idea?
Anyone have some neat ideas about getting FB folks involved in a group?
Other folks involved in similar efforts?

John

Hi, John. Neat that you are doing all this. But I am not into FaceBook (I have an account, but rarely use it). Too gated for me. Thank you, anyway.

Hope
I'm going around and around on Facebook. Their group's features leave a lot to be desired, but I want to get out to where people are.

Ning isn't perfect...if they had a good way to do a wiki, I might go with them. WetPaint is pretty neat...but you can't easily extract your data out if you want to move. (True with Ning too.) I'm quite curious about WordPress Buddy (http://buddypress.org/) but it is pretty new.

I thought about going with Ning, or something else, but feel it may be too much for folks to join/learn another platform. The community I have to offer at the moment is not so compelling to get folks to use something new. I see it as a more public health/wellness site. So, I need to go where the public is.

I will give Facebook at good try. If it works, I may use it as a gateway to a more fully featured community site.

I will send you an invite for the beta anyway, Hope, and certainly keep you in mind for my other projects.
I've now opened the Facebook group "CorvallisHealth" up to any and all. Feel free to stop by and check it out..and by all means join in!
