WiN2011 Strategic Planning Updates

Great meeting last night and wanted to update those of you who weren’t there or able to attend…

Topics Addressed:
Financials for WiN2010 (-$290)
OSU Engagement:
OSU’s Office of Research, the new Office for Commercialization and Corporate Development, the OSU Foundation, the newly named Office of University Relations and Marketing (formerly University Advancement), and the Alumni Association have confirmed support and commitment to the mission and goals of WiN.
- Adoption of the Oregon Business Plan thematic areas for structuring WiN and for showing alignment with state-level vision and goals.
o The key OBP areas are:
 Natural Resources
 Advanced Manufacturing
 Footwear, Outer Gear & Apparel
 High Tech
 Clean Tech
 (We are adding BioMedical to WiN to represent activity in this region)
- Brian Wall has joined the WiN Planning Committee
- Dan Whitaker, a founder of SAO and High Tech After Hours (the origins of WiN) will be on the Planning Committee once engaged and ramped up with OSU
- OSU will identify key strategic areas of focus aligned with the core OBP areas
Presentation of WiN to OSU’s TRIAD group last week
Year-round Mini-WiN Network Events
Discussed plans for small networking events around the year to focus on and build community within the identified clusters and “outsiders”
First date identified, March 10th.
WiN Planning Committee Task Groups Identified
Programming (Loyan, Michael, Jason, Donna, Brenda VanDevelder?)
Outreach - local to regional/statewide (Loyan (WiN site), Brian, Shari, David, Dan, Kathleen, Nick, John, Pam)
Sponsorship (Michelle, Shari, and, of course, EVERYONE is expected to help!  )
Regional Outreach
Pam Silburnagel and I are working on outreach of the WiN umbrella to foster the coalescence and community of its mission at the regional level strategically. Meetings and plans to come… Target key civic and industry leaders in the region.

Additional Actions/Decisons Taken:
Inclusion of BioMedical into our thematic areas to highlight and showcase the high level of activity in this region
Next Outreach Task Meeting planned for when Dan W. is on board.
Next Program Task Meeting scheduled for Feb 1st
Creation of Thematic area groups within the WiN site – recruit industry/research superstars to participate
Next Sponsorship Meeting: TBD/ASAP
