These business have stood out to me recently for doing something unique and remarkable.

Conservation Biology Institute.
I just found this website site today in fact. http://databasin.org. I love seeing web sites that enable collaboration. And the conservation aspect is a bonus.

Block 15 Brewery
I had a mango beer there. I have never even heard of a mango beer prior. Even in Hawaii.

Rocket Queen Cupcakes (http://rocketqueencupcakes.com/)
I think she is based in Albany right now, but I am hoping for a store in Corvallis. I had a maple butter and bacon cupcake called the Squeeler. (And I love the song by GnR)

Nordyke-MobileChris Nordyke, State Farm Insurance
You've seen the car right? He hosted a free BBQ in front of his office. If it was just to stand out...it worked on me. Yes, I'm a new client now.

Madison Avenue Collective (http://www.madcollective.com)
Its like the co-op, but for creative and design professionals. They share an office/workspace and work collaboratively, but they are still independent freelancers. Its a new and unique business model for me.

Powered By Orange, OSU (http://poweredbyorange.com)
I LOVE the university embracing social media promoting their community ahead of themselves. Flies in the face of traditional marketing.

I know you are thinking "so-and-so should be mentioned". Well your right! Add your list to this thread right now!

Not in Corvallis? Go make your own thread! And I mean that in the most encouraging way possible.

OSU Motor Pool
This might seem like an odd vote, but I have been really impressed with their savvy lately. They are always looking to build a relationship with the OSU community. They hold free lunches once a month. They also use clever marketing strategies such as placing vehicles around campus that feature their stunning new vinyl graphics as a tool to create buzz.
We are' fortunate to have generous folks that support the Business Enterprise Center, Inc out at the Corvallis Municipal Airport Industrial Park! The BEC has a 20 year history of supporting Hi Tech start ups and has been recently awarded status as a 501 (c) 3 Charitable Education Non-Profit. Both the city of Corvallis and Benton county have supported the BEC's mission of growing our own innovative businesses. Currently there are 15 resident client companies and the advisory boards are working with 4 off-site resident clients. The BEC was awarded a USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant again in 2009! Hazelnut Hill
Their vertical business includes growing & harvesting of hazelnuts and making and selling candy with hazelnuts. Marketing seems to be primarily word of mouth and they appear to have strong annual growth. They sell directly to customers only (no resellers) through their web site and and their store on 99 (which is a fun place to visit). They now offer unique varieties of hazelnuts. We send out their gift packs as a holiday gift to clients.
