I participated in the planning and attended the Governor's Oregon Business Plan this year held this past Monday up in Portland. The refreshing subtitle of "Not Business as Usual" was a welcome twist to the day's theme. It seems that an awakening of the need to shift our thinking and processes to enable innovation and greater economic development is, thankfully, occuring throughout the state. And, to hear this repeated by every major business and political leader who spoke gives me hope that things can and will change to make Oregon more business ready & friendly.
Special attention was given to the public sector agencies and universities, with calls for breaking the current bureacracies that hold innovation and efficiencies back. Having worked in (currently), and with, a number of public sector agencies in the state, I find this call for change heartening.
Is your organization strangled by bureacratic policy? Are there changes you can make to facilitate innovation and speed the process of commercialization and economic development?
The time of bureacracy has ended. What can you do to usher in the new paradigm of facilitation and empowerment?
